Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), Berlin, Germany
|
|
This course introduces several test and measurement techniques toward the POF for a high-speed data communication, which are specially customized for POF.
|
Overview
- Measurement methods of fundamental optical properties such as refractive index, refractive index profile, and scattering loss of polymers are introduced.
- Dispersion properties and modal properties test methods are introduced with showing the up-to-date results in the graded-index plastic optical fiber(GI-POF).
- Total losses and bending loss measurement methods are shown with showing the up-to-date results in the graded-index polymer optical fiber(GI-POF).

About the Instructor
Takaaki Ishigure received the B. S. degree in applied chemistry and the M. S. and Ph. D. degrees in material science from Keio University, Japan in 1991, 1993, and 1996 respectively. He is currently an assistant professor of Keio University. He has been concurrently a group leader of Japan Science and Technology Cooperation ERATO Koike Photonics Polymer Project. He has been promoting the high-bandwidth and low-loss GI-POF and GI-POF systems so far. His current research interests are in preparation of high-bandwidth graded-index polymer optical fiber and its system design.
